Hometown Chinese Food

 

After changing my strategy, a friend pointed out a very obvious flaw: I would probably procrastinate on dining at restaurants with food I dislike and end up with 17 Chinese establishments to finish off the List! Disturbed by the possibility of three months of cream cheese wontons and fried orange chicken, I resolved to visit a Chinese place for restaurant #24.   Continue reading.

Davis Noodle City

On a warm summer evening, we strolled past the popular Sophia’s and through the door of restaurant #13, Davis Noodle City. The hostess greeted us with a smile, invited us to sit anywhere, and poured us tall glasses of water. When I pulled on my jacket—a big temperature shock from the Davis heat to the air-conditioned store!—she immediately offered to turn off the little fan unit behind me. Hunan Bar & Restaurant

Okay, I confess… I’ve been procrastinating on trying to next couple of restaurants on the list. I’m not a fan of Chinese food—gelatinous sauces just aren’t my thing—and with not one but two Chinese places in the queue, I invented excuse after excuse to put them off. To deal with the dread, I invited a friend along to restaurant #12, and he promised to split an entrée so I could avoid leftovers.

 

Upon entering Hunan Bar & Restaurant, the host immediately seated us, and the waitress stopped by the table less than a minute later. Still decided my food fate, I asked for more time, and we settled on orange chicken.   Continue reading.
