Mishka’s Café

June 15, 2012

I flew solo for Restaurant #2 and stopped by Mishka’s Café for a late afternoon pick-me-up. Upon entering the store, I realized I wasn’t the only one: people occupied every seat in the house—talking, typing, laughing, reading. At the counter, the friendly baristas took my order, made change, and served my drink and snack all in a matter of seconds.

Now for the big DISCLAIMER

I have never tried coffee before. I always pawned off any coffee-flavored lollipops, jellybeans, or chocolate to my dad, who could single-handedly keep Peet’s in business. So take my comments with a grain of salt (or a cube of sugar, if that’s how you prefer your drink…).

After each sip of my ice decaf coffee, a roasted and slightly bitter taste lingered on my tongue. Not burned, only bitter. It caught me off-guard—coffee smells so different than it tastes!—so I switched to the lemon poppy seed muffin.

Another DISCLAIMER

I love to bake. Love love love. If it has flour, I’ve probably tried to make it. So I feel a bit more comfortable voicing my opinion on baked treats…

Despite its small size, the muffin packed lots of lemon flavor. It had a good crumb, soft interior, and slightly crunchy top. Delicious to try, but not quite worth the price when I have a lemon tree in my backyard and poppy seeds in my pantry!

Mishka’s Café is a good place to go to catch up with friends. It has a pleasant atmosphere, not quite enough seating, and a friendly staff serving their tasty treats. I probably won’t go back, but that’s nothing against the store. I’m just going to continue sending any and all coffee-related things to Dad!
